Under direction of the Director of Council on Aging provides safe and timely transportation for Harwich senior citizens by driving a van.

Essential Functions

The essential functions or duties listed below are intended only as illustration of the various types of work that may be performed. The omission of specific statements of duties does not exclude them from the position if work is similar, related, or a logical assignment to the position.

• Picks up senior citizens of Harwich and transports them to and from various locations such as the Harwich Community Center for programs such as Senior Dining, Supper Club, Exercise Classes, concerts etc. Transportation also to doctors' offices, grocery stores, hairdressers and the like in a timely and safe manner.
• Communicates any changes observed in client’s mental, physical or psychological health and wellbeing to Social Services Director, COA Director, and/or Town Nurse for potential Assessment of wellbeing.
• Safely operates the van's wheel chair lift and secures passengers' wheelchairs during trips.
• Ensures passengers are secured before moving vehicle.
• Assists disabled passengers getting into and out of vehicle; offers other appropriate assistance as necessary.
• Maintains records of passengers during the month and submits to appropriate personnel at the Cape Cod Regional Transit Authority electronically for monthly reports.
• Treats passengers with care and respect at all times.
• Makes adjustments to schedule as necessary.
• Delivers mail to and from Town Hall and performs other errands for the department.
• May transport senior citizens to out of town event, performances or other activities.
• Maintain First Aid kit supplies and inform Director of COA when supplies need to be replenished.
• Performs other related duties as requested.

Recommended Minimum Qualification

Education and Experience

High School Diploma/GED required with 2 years’ experience working with Senior Citizens.

Knowledge, Skills and Abilities

 

Duties require knowledge of the roads and streets of the Town of Harwich. Ability to establish and maintain effective working relationships with the general public is essential. Strong customer service and inter personal skills are required.
