The Massachusetts Healthy Aging Collaborative (MHAC) invites MCOA members and community partners to join its upcoming Statewide Network meeting on Wednesday, September 23.

Held quarterly, MHAC Statewide Network meetings bring together organizations and community partners to share practices, policies, opportunities, and resources that support inclusive age- and dementia-friendly communities across Massachusetts.

What’s on the agenda?

Massachusetts Department of Public Health: Community Health & Healthy Aging Funds

Attendees will hear from the Massachusetts Department of Public Health about the recently announced $17.9 million in awards through the Community Health and Healthy Aging Funds.

The 31 awardees will advance work in three key areas:

• Building healthier communities through community-driven policies, systems, and environments that make it easier for residents to lead healthy lives.
• Coordinating community health improvement planning by bringing local partners together to identify health priorities and develop solutions.
• Supporting healthy aging through age-friendly policies, systems, and community supports that help older adults live safely and independently.

Massachusetts Housing Partnership: Accessory Dwelling Units

The meeting will also feature Meredith Boericke, ADU Program Director for the Massachusetts Housing Partnership (MHP).

Meredith oversees the ADU Incentive Program, a statewide initiative administered by MHP in collaboration with the Executive Office of Housing and Livable Communities (HLC). The program helps property owners evaluate and advance accessory dwelling unit (ADU) projects.

The program will support homeowners in obtaining professional feasibility studies to determine:

• Whether an ADU is possible on their property
• What the project may cost
• What steps are needed to move the project forward

For communities working to expand housing options and support older adults who want to remain safely and independently in their homes, ADUs can be an important part of the conversation around age-friendly housing and community development.

There will also be time at the end of the meeting for partners to share updates about age- and dementia-friendly initiatives happening in their communities.
