Program and Engagement Coordinator at the Westborough Senior Center
Assists the Senior and Social Services Director in planning, organizing and
implementing a variety of educational and social programs, wellness activities and special events
that support the Westborough Council on Aging’s mission to promote social, recreational and
educational activities and provide advocacy and assistance to Westborough’s older adults and
their families. Coordinates volunteers for Senior Center programs.
ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES include the following. Other duties may be

Develops, coordinates and implements daily and long-term programs at the Senior Center and
through partnerships in community-based settings.
Develops a monthly calendar of diverse program activities. Research, plan, and execute a well-rounded schedule including educational, health, community, recreational, fitness, cultural, safety,
and intergenerational programs.
Arranges for and schedules program instructors and guest speakers. Screens all presenters,
instructors, and performers and ensures that all proper documents are requested and completed
including: proper insurance, tax information, and CORI checks.
Assists with tracking of participant fees collected, payment of instructor/performer/speaker
stipends, and the general activity budget.
Assists in managing the programming portion of the budget on an ongoing basis in conjunction
with the Director, including a basic understanding of the town program budget and available
grant funding; negotiates prices with vendors and recommend program fees to the Director;
seeks low-cost program opportunities such as in-kind support from presenters and vendors when
available.
Keeps current with active older adult trends and seeks new programmatic ideas to meet the needs
of Town residents over the age of 60.
Leads the planning and coordination of events, programs, lectures, activities, and trips to ensure
a positive experience for participants, performers, volunteers, instructors, and guest speakers.
Communicates details with Senior Center staff and volunteers.

Develops promotional literature for programs. Prepares news releases, newsletter articles, flyers
and posters of program offerings and special events. Prepare, edit, and distribute monthly
newsletter. Maintain the news and events section of the Town website. Widely promotes
programs and services.
Coordinates the materials and facilitators necessary to the implementation of various programs.
Coordinates room usage in the Senior Center.
Maintains relationships with other Town departments, community groups, and service providers
for the purpose of education, advocacy and networking.
Provides information over the phone and in person; assists with registration for all Senior Center
events, activities, and services via My Senior Center.
Assists in the collection and accurate reporting of data related to departmental activities/program
participation.
Develops, promotes, and maintains a wide range of volunteer opportunities based on client needs
and Senior Center activities.
Recruits prospective volunteers. Performs reference and required background checks. Trains
volunteers on all policies and procedures, including confidentiality. Periodically reviews
volunteer policies and/or handbook and recommends updates to the Director.
Provides feedback and assistance to volunteers to determine and utilize their strengths.
Collects and manages volunteer program feedback to make improvements.
Properly handles confidential and sensitive information.
Participates in periodic training related to Senior Center operations and services.
Supervisory Responsibilities: This position does not directly supervise staff; however, the
position oversees a number of volunteers and is responsible for planning, assigning, and
directing their work.
Education and/or Experience: Associate’s degree in human services, or related area of study
preferred; one to three years of experience in providing activities, recreation and/or social
services to older adults; or any equivalent combination of education and experience.
Language Skills: Ability to read, analyze, and interpret general business periodicals,
professional journals, technical procedures, or governmental regulations. Ability to write
reports, business correspondence, and procedure manuals. Ability to effectively present
information and respond to questions from groups of managers, clients, customers, and the
general public.
Mathematical Skills: Ability to add, subtract, multiply, and divide in all units of measure, using
whole numbers, common fractions, and decimals. Ability to compute rate, ratio, and percent and
to draw and interpret bar graphs.
Reasoning Ability: Ability to solve practical problems and deal with a variety of concrete
variables in situations where only limited standardization exists. Ability to interpret a variety of
instructions furnished in written, oral, diagram, or schedule form.
Computer Skills: To perform this job successfully, an individual should have knowledge of
Spreadsheet, Database and Word Processing software and possess the ability to learn
departmental specific software such as My Senior Center.
Must have a valid driver's license.
Other Skills and Abilities: Ability to deal appropriately with employees, other departments, and
the public, in particular, seniors, both on the phone and in person. Ability to maintain, manage
and organize records with attention to detail. Ability to communicate clearly and concisely with
others, both verbally and in writing. Ability to perform detailed work accurately and efficiently
within deadlines. Ability to prioritize multiple tasks and deal effectively with interruptions.
Ability to maintain sensitive and confidential information. Ability to work as part of team to
problem solve in diverse situations and with diverse personalities.

Anticipated hiring range: $25.16 - 29.14 per hour based on demonstrated qualifications and experience (maximum of range is $35.59/hour). Wages will increase 2.5% on July 1, 2026.
